I myself, am a Kindle ebook reader as maybe you are as well. I have read many Kindle ebooks and have really enjoyed the books I have read. What I didn’t know was there are different ways Kindle pays authors who put their books up in Kindle. I would like to share with you….
Here is how KDP select works.
Enrolling my eBook in their optional KDP Select program gives me the author the opportunity to reach more readers and earn more money. I can enroll a single book, my whole catalog or anything in between. Enrolling in KDP Select makes my book eligible for 70% royalty earnings on sales to customers in Brazil, Japan, India, and Mexico. I love the fact that my book is enjoyed all around the world.
If I make my eBook exclusive to the Kindle Store, which is a requirement during my book’s enrollment in KDP Select, my book will also be included in Kindle Unlimited (KU) and the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library (KOLL). I can earn a share of the KDP Select Global Fund based on how many pages KU or KOLL customers read of my book. This is my favorite part of the KDP Select program.
This whole thing sounds very exciting for a new author like me who has only published a few books. But what I didn’t know was that many people are surfing books that they read (not that I mind), because every time someone clicks onto my book I get paid. But what you as a reader might not know… When you click on those books and decide not to read the book. The author might get as low as 0.01 cents per click.
Here are some of those smallest payments I have received…
$0.01 I’m not sure if they said oppps, I didn’t know I had my Kindle on.
Are these Kindle readers butt dialing the kindle?
Of course, I have received the full amount also Which is from $1.88 to $2.30 depending on which eBook you read.
Ok. I know that Kindle readers are looking for just the right book to read just as I am. But did you know that Kindle monitors the amount of the book you are reading and pays their authors according to how many pages you have read? Remember to keep THAT in mind when you are finished with your book.
So next time I am on my Kindle reader, if I enjoyed the book I am reading… I will go to the very end of the book so that the author can get paid the highest amount for their book.
And Remember to leave a great 5-star review. I loved this book because blah blah blah. But don’t give away any of the book. Let the next person reading the book enjoy it as much as I did.
