The Inspiration

The idea for Modified: 2099 began during California’s 2012 election and the debate over labeling genetically modified foods. It sparked a question in my imagination:
What if someday humans didn’t just eat genetically modified food—what if humans became genetically modified?
That question became the world of Modified: 2099.

Set in South Orange County, California, in the year 2099, the story follows Harry, a genetically modified man who invents a time machine. He travels back to 1972 and brings Anna, a young woman from the past, into his drastically altered future.
Anna suddenly finds herself surrounded by a world—and a version of humanity—she could never have imagined. Harry believes she may be able to help change the future, but first Anna must understand what happened to the human race and why she was brought there.

Can one woman from the past change the future of humankind?
