This book really nails it. I got my cosmetology license several years ago and I wish this book was around back before I was in school. Most of us go into beauty college blind. This book opens your eyes. It’s written in a conversational tone and it’s very easy to read. I especially like all the information it provides on different topics, like working in the salon, beauty college, competition, marketing, and the stories about hair fashions and interacting with clients. I have a neighbor in beauty college and I’m going to get this for her. It lays out the career of a hairstylist—but it’s like your best friend is teaching you the industry, not a textbook or product rep. There is no sugar coating here. I definitely recommend this book. It’s a must read!

I got my cosmetology license when I was eighteen. Even though I am no longer a hairdresser, I don’t regret getting my license. I do wish I knew more about the industry back then. This is a great guide to for learning about the history of the industry as well as what to expect. I highly recommend it.

It is rare that I actually spend the time to sit down and read a book. I started reading and was amazed to look up and see the clock said I had been reading for hours. The stories and feeling like you’re reading a journal or diary makes you forget its a book and you can imagine being there. What drives this book, even more, is the fact it is based on a true story, you will find yourself worrying about each person in this book. I at one point was actually afraid to find out if Terezia’s husband would come home, I won’t tell you if he does come home or what happens to him.
