In 2012, California was debating whether genetically modified foods should be labeled. As I listened to all the arguments, a completely different thought came into my mind.
What if someday we didn’t just eat genetically modified food?
What if humans became genetically modified?
That question eventually became my science-fiction novel, Modified: 2099.
The story takes place in Orange County, California, in the year 2099. Humans have been genetically modified, and the world has become very different from the one we know today.
Harry, a brilliant inventor, creates a time machine and travels back to 1972. There he meets Anna and brings her with him to the year 2099—a future she could never have imagined.
But Anna isn’t modified. She’s completely human.
And that may make her more important to the future of humankind than anyone realizes.
If you enjoy science fiction, romance, time travel, and wondering what our future might look like, Modified: 2099 might be your next read.
