About the Author
Beth James has been a hairstylist in Southern California since 1977. She opened her first salon in 1984 during a time when the beauty industry was thriving.
In the first year of opening, she completed advanced training at the Vidal Sassoon Academy in Los Angeles. The following year, she traveled to Europe to study at Eszter Kozmetika, a leading aesthetic school, where she gained comprehensive knowledge about skincare, lash tinting, waxing, and the ins and outs of the beauty biz.
Beth continued to expand her expertise by attending yearly European seminars, as well as major events in Long Beach, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and New York City. She learned from some of the biggest names in the industry, including Vidal Sassoon, Paul Mitchell, Trevor Sorbie, Eszter Hajdu, and other world-renowned educators.
Throughout her career, Beth mentored and trained up-and-coming stylists, helping them become senior-level professionals. She also worked with beauty product marketers and educators, gaining firsthand insight into the challenges and realities of the business.
By the mid-2000s, after opening a second salon, Beth witnessed firsthand the drastic shifts in the beauty industry.
Beth’s motivation for writing this book is simple: to inform, advise, and warn anyone thinking of entering the beauty field.
